Conveyors Used in The Plastic And Rubber Industry

Apr 24,2025

Feeding PE (Polyethylene) material-whether it's in pellet, granule, or powder form-into different types of plastic processing machines like injection molding, extruders, blow molding, and vacuum forming requires reliable, efficient, and clean conveying systems.

General PE Material Type Assumption:

Usually in pellet or granule form

Sometimes powder (especially for special grades or additives)

1. Vacuum Loaders / Vacuum Conveyors

Best for:

✅ Injection Molding

✅ Extrusion

✅ Blow Molding

✅ Blown Film

✅ Vacuum Forming

How it works: Uses suction to pull PE material into a hopper/dryer and then into the processing machine.

Advantages:

Clean and dust-free

Fully automatic, supports centralized feeding

Works well with pellet dryers/dehumidifiers

Suitable for long or complex piping routes

Used with: Hopper dryers, dosing systems

2. Screw Conveyors (Flexible or Rigid Auger)

Best for:
✅ Extrusion
✅ Blow Molding
✅ Larger scale or high-volume feeding

How it works: Mechanically feeds materials via rotating screw.

Advantages:

Precise feed control

Handles consistent, continuous flow

Better for short-to-medium distances

Notes:

Not ideal for long distances or when clean-room conditions are required

Can sometimes generate heat from friction

consider this for sensitive PE materials

3. Gravity Feed with Hopper and Vibratory Feeder

Best for:

✅ Short, direct feeding (e.g., under silo to machine)

How it works: Uses gravity + vibration to feed material

Advantages:

Simple and low-cost

No moving parts, low maintenance

Limits:

Needs elevation difference

Not suited for long-distance transfer

4. Pneumatic Conveyors (Dilute Phase)

Best for:
✅ Centralized material supply systems
✅ Large factories with many machines

How it works: Uses air pressure to transport pellets through a pipe system

Advantages:

Great for high-volume and long-distance transfer

Can serve multiple machines from a central silo
